The open shelving works for books, plants, small decor, or whatever you currently have on a side shelf -- and the cat climbing levels integrate into the structure so naturally that most visitors register it as a bookshelf first.

The open shelves are designed for books, small plants, and decor items -- typical shelf loads in the range of 10 to 15 lbs per shelf. They are not designed for heavy storage. For heavier loads we would recommend a dedicated storage unit.
