PVC Cat Trees: The Wipe-Clean Option for Indoors, Outdoors and Busy Homes

For the cat who lives on the catio, the foster room or the mudroom: a PVC cat tree that wipes clean in a minute, indoors or out.

Some cat trees live in the living room. Others live on a catio, in a foster room or next to the litter box, and they get muddy paws, hairballs and the occasional accident every single week. For those spots, a PVC cat tree is the answer most people never consider, because they are picturing cheap plastic.

What a PVC Cat Tree Actually Is (and Is Not)

Forget the flimsy plastic towers in pet store aisles. Ours are built from co-extruded furniture-grade PVC: a hard, glossy outer shell fused to a structural inner core, made to handle daily use and repeated scrubbing. The perches are heavy-duty fabric held in the frame, so there is nothing to soak up a spill.

You choose the fabric for how the tree will live. Heavy-duty 40-ounce vinyl wipes clean with soap or disinfectant, perforated vinyl adds airflow, and outdoor mesh drains and dries for a catio or porch. Every frame and fabric part is available as a replacement, so a worn perch is a part, not a new tree.

Quality Standards Audit Brian's Quality Standards Audit

"I audit every one of our solid wood, carpet and sisal trees, and for a living room I would put them up against anything. But some trees have a different job. If a tree gets disinfected every day, or lives outside, you want a surface that sheds everything instead of holding it. A co-extruded PVC frame with stainless steel hardware does not rot, swell or rust, and the whole thing wipes down in a few minutes. That is why these show up in shelters and multi-cat homes: they are built for the places that clean the hardest."

The Plastic Cat Tree That Can Live Outside

Most cat trees are indoor furniture, and that is exactly where they belong. Outside, rain and sun are hard on any fabric that holds water. A PVC cat tower with the almond frame, which is rated for indoor and outdoor use, and outdoor mesh perches can stay out on a catio or covered porch instead of living indoors.

That makes it a natural fit for cats who split their time between inside and out. If the catio needs more than one piece, add a raised PVC cat bed at floor level for the cat who would rather not climb. For more on what holds up outdoors, see what makes an outdoor cat gym last.

With the indoor/outdoor frame and mesh perches, a PVC tower can stay out on the catio, and the mesh rinses clean.

Choosing a Size: From a 2-Tier Perch to a 9-Tier Tower

The system runs from a compact 2-tier up to a 9-tier tower, all on the same 21 by 15-inch perches. The 3-tier stays low at 29 inches but spreads to 30 inches wide, a good fit for two cats sharing a corner. The 6-tier PVC cat tower reaches 47 inches and stays stable without wall anchoring, thanks to its wide base and low center of gravity.

Choose height by how your cats use the room. Cats who like to watch from above will use a taller tower; cats who mostly nap want width more than height. Optional fleece pads add warmth to any perch, and because every tree is made in the USA to order, you pick the fabric and frame color at checkout.

Curation Perspective Amy's Curation Perspective

"I recommend PVC to three kinds of people: anyone with a cat who has accidents, anyone running a foster or rescue setup, and anyone with a catio. For the main living space, I still steer most people to a solid wood tree with carpet and sisal, because that is what cats love to scratch and sleep on. The PVC tree is the second tree, for the spot that gets messy. The first thing I look at is the fabric choice: vinyl for easy cleaning, mesh for outdoors."
