    The cats loved it right away. I think it was a good investment as we have 8 cats and they all have a different preference for scratching!!

    The wood is too soft leaving big slivers of wood on the floor. I am constantly vacuuming around the post. We have had several scratch posts over the years and the wood was always made from harder wood. **Not good for people walking around barefooted or in socks. Not advisable for families with toddlers. Sandy, The wood is a Douglas Fir. It is a soft wood but we have never had this be a problem in the 30 years of making these trees. you want a wood they can scratch not just slide over but dig in so it works. You must have some very aggressive scratchers.
