A 75-inch gym with genuine sisal rope, an enclosed bedroom, and enough levels to keep two cats busy - at a price point that doesn't require a conversation.

Quality Standards Audit Founder's Perspective

"The California is in our catalog because it does what it says at a price most people can actually spend. It is not built like our Signature Line - the frame is particleboard and it will show wear before a solid wood piece would. But the sisal rope is real, the platforms are generous, and at 75 inches it gives cats meaningful vertical territory. If your budget is under two hundred dollars and you need a full-size gym, this is an honest choice."

The California Giant Kitty Gym is built for households that want real vertical territory without the premium price tag. At 75 inches it reaches close to ceiling height in most rooms, giving cats the elevation they naturally seek - a higher vantage point where they feel secure, in control, and genuinely at ease. The Forest colorway, with its green fabric and brown sisal rope, is one of those rare budget gym designs that looks intentional in a room rather than like an afterthought tucked in a corner.

The sisal rope scratching posts give cats a proper surface to drag their claws down - natural fiber, the right texture, and positioned at multiple heights so cats can stretch fully when they use them. The enclosed bedroom gives anxious cats a private retreat, while the tunnel satisfies the instinct to move through tight spaces. Multiple platforms mean a second (or third) cat can claim a level without displacing anyone else - a genuine multi-cat feature rather than a marketing claim.

Place it near a light source or open area if you can. The elevated platforms become observation posts and cats will use them far more with a view. The 23-inch base gives it a stable footprint - avoid placing on carpet with very deep pile, which can create subtle instability at the top over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this gym stable enough for large cats? +

The 23-inch square base provides a stable footprint for cats up to about 15 pounds. For very large breeds - Maine Coons, Ragdolls, Norwegian Forest Cats over 15 lbs - we recommend our Signature Line gyms which are specifically engineered for large breed weight capacity and stability. The California is a strong choice for average and medium-sized cats.

How difficult is assembly? +

Assembly is straightforward and all hardware is included. Most customers complete it in 45-60 minutes with a standard screwdriver. We recommend assembling with a second person given the 75-inch height - having someone steady the upper sections while you secure the connections makes the process easier and ensures everything is properly aligned.

Will it work for two cats? +

Yes - the multiple platform levels, enclosed bedroom, and tunnel give two cats enough separate destinations to coexist without competition. In multi-cat households the key is destinations: a gym with only one or two perches forces cats to take turns or compete for the top spot. The California has enough variety to reduce that tension meaningfully.

How does the sisal rope hold up over time? +

Natural sisal rope is the correct material for scratching posts - cats are drawn to it because of its texture and resistance. With regular use it will fray over time, which is actually a sign it is working as intended. The California uses sisal rope at multiple levels so cats scratch throughout the gym rather than concentrating wear on one post. When a section wears through completely, replacement sisal rope is widely available and can be rewrapped.

    Jennifer W's Review

I purchased the California Giant Kitty Gym almost a month ago and I finally got around to putting it together this morning. I love it and so do my four cats! It was easy to put together, just time consuming because of all the parts. It took about an hour, plus another 15 - 20 minutes to do the vines. (Frankly, the vines were the hardest part!) It is very sturdy and well made. I am very pleased with this purchase, the price paid - I got it on sale - and would not think twice about making another purchase from catsplay.com in the future.
