Quality Standards Audit Founder’s Perspective

"Cedar is my favorite material for outdoor safety. My audit for this tree focused on the base stability and the natural weatherproofing. This unit is sanded to a smooth finish, providing a safe, non-toxic environment that will weather to a beautiful silver patina over time."

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this really stay outside year-round? +

Yes. Eastern White Cedar has natural oils that resist rot, moisture, and insects without any chemical treatment — which is exactly why we chose it over pressure-treated alternatives that aren't safe around cats. The tree will weather to a silver-gray patina over time, which is cosmetic, not structural. Customers in four-season climates have reported theirs holding up for years. For maximum longevity, a roof add-on or seasonal placement under cover helps.

Is the cedar safe for cats? +

Eastern White Cedar is untreated, non-toxic, and sanded smooth before shipping — no chemical sealants, no aromatic cedar oils in concentrations that cause respiratory issues. Eastern White Cedar is distinct from aromatic Western Red Cedar used in closet liners; it's the correct species for pet furniture. The surfaces are finished safely for cats to climb, scratch, and nap on without concern.

Which size level should I choose? +

The 2-level (29") works for small patios or for older cats who prefer shorter climbs. The 3-level (45") is the most popular choice — enough height to feel like a real tree without dominating the space. The 4-level (61") suits active climbers and multi-cat homes. The 5-level (76") is for households with serious climbers or outdoor catios with the vertical clearance to use it. All sizes share the same 42.5" x 41.5" base, so stability is consistent across the range.

What are the sleeper platforms and which perches get them? +

Sleeper platforms are raised sides that turn a flat perch into a cradle, giving a napping cat something to lean against. On the sleeper platform versions, all perches including the top perch come with raised sides. If you'd prefer the top perch open for wider visibility, the side panels on the top perch can be removed after assembly — remove the perch first, then the side panel. Confirm the configuration before ordering to avoid surprises.

How stable is it on a deck or patio? +

The 42.5" x 41.5" base footprint is wide enough to stay firmly planted without anchoring on any flat deck, patio, or catio floor, even with multiple cats climbing. The base is the single most audited element of this build — a tall tree without a wide base is a fall risk. For windy locations or elevated balconies, anchoring the base to the surface adds a margin of safety, but for most homes it's stable as-shipped.

How difficult is assembly? +

Most customers assemble it in under an hour on their own. The tree ships in 2 boxes with a specialty square-head driver bit included. A powered drill or driver is strongly recommended — hand-driving the screws into cedar is possible but slow. The larger 4 and 5-level versions are easier with a second pair of hands for lifting the upper perches into place, though not required.

    Emily's Review

I purchased the five-tier cat tree online. It arrived in a timely fashion and was surprisingly easy to assemble without any assistance. It looks great on the screened-in porch (aka "catio"), and I love the smell of cedar. My two cats are slowly getting used to it, but I have no doubt that they'll enjoy snoozing in the heights before long. Altogether, I'm very satisfied with this product.

It was easy to install. It is more solid than the last one I purchased about 10 years ago from another place. The only thing to wait and see is; will the cedar keep as well over the years as my last one did. I left it as it is. I'm satisfied,

This cat tree was extremely easy to put together. I got the 5 level and the cats love it. It is stable, unlike some other cat trees I've tried ( and I have tried many over the last 40 years) I would highly recommend this product over a carpeted tree.
