I just spent $22 on a 20-pound bag of cat litter. That's $1.10 a pound. I pay $1.10 a pound for ground beef and 79 cents a pound for chicken. How did my life come to this?
Mind you, the cats really love this particular cat litter. It's made from corn, so it has a nice, natural smell, a soft texture and no dust at all. I pay 39 cents a pound for cornmeal, but this litter also clumps and cornmeal doesn't. And the cats prefer a clumping litter, because it means I can keep the box cleaner. Sugar clumps too, and I pay just 42 cents a pound for it, but sugar clumps just don't hold together the way litter clumps do. Plus, this litter is flushable, which is really important to me. I did try a cheaper flushable clumping litter once, but it stuck really hard to the bottom of the litter box.
I am beginning to wonder if I could line the litter box with chicken. It would certainly be a lot cheaper.
