Yang Yang likes to pee in the bathroom sink. It all started when he was a year old and had a urinary tract infection. His trip to the litter box hurt, so he figured the box was full of evil cat-hurting creatures and picked a different spot to urinate. I know whenever a cat suddenly changes his litter box habits, a trip to the vet is in order. So Yang Yang got some medicine, and also lifelong preference for peeing in the sink.
It's not much of a problem, really, because we just keep the bathroom door shut all the time. We tell visitors to do the same, but they usually think we're joking. Still, if Yang Yang gets to the sink, some hot water and a little bleach cleans everything right up.
But a few weeks ago we came back from a trip and found a message on our answering machine from Sal, the plumber. He wanted to confirm our request to have a sink installed at the end of our hallway-the long hallway where the litter box is now. Yang Yang simply looked the other way whenever I asked him if he had anything to do with this. But last night I heard him pacing up and down the hallway calling, "Sal, Sal." I think we're in trouble.
