Sphynx

By The Cat Fanciers' Association for Cat Facts

Coloring - Since this cat is hairless, color and pattern are difficult to distinguish.

Eyes - Large, lemon shaped eyes are set wide apart. Eye Color should be appropriate to coat color.

Overall Appearance - The most distinctive feature of this cat is its appearance of hairlessness. The Sphynx is not actually totally hairless, there is fine down on the body which feels like a warm peach. Some light hair is often present on the nose, tail and toes. The Sphynx is of medium size and body conformation with surprising weight for its size. The body is warm and soft to the touch, with a chamois-like texture to the skin.

Personality - The Sphynx is sweet-tempered, lively, intelligent, and amenable to handling. They perform silly antics for your entertainment and are sometimes downright clumsy...on purpose it seems. The Sphynx have an abundance of energy and mischief and are always with you, on you or showing off for you.

Interesting Breed Fact - The texture of the Sphynx skin has been likened to a suede hot water bottle, a horse's warm muzzle or a heated chamois. Because of the lack of hair that would normally absorb body oils, the Sphynx needs to be bathed periodically.
